How to Be Smart and Cool at the Same Time

Many people think that if you're a straight A student, or you like making computer programs, you are a nerd. That's actually one of the biggest lies. You can be smart and cool at the same time. This guide will teach you how transform from a nerd into a totally cool dude without changing interests.

[edit] Steps

  1. Analyze the situation. How nerdy are you? Are you a nerd at all? If you are not, you still might want to read this to avoid becoming one.
  2. Learn to be quiet and talk only when spoken to. Sometimes you might not notice that you are talking and think that people are actually interested, but they're just being annoyed.
  3. Do not talk about your personal life. If someone asks what you like to do for fun, don't lie. Just answer honestly (no matter how geeky the answer is). But do not go into much detail. For example, if you like to make web-pages, don't say "I make the best web-pages without even using any programs. I make them with notepad because I memorized entire HTML and I even know all of javascript. And I also like to play MMORPGS, Warcraft to be specific, bla-bla-bla-bla-blah." Just say, "I like to use computer and play videogames." If they ask you specifically, say "I make websites", or "I like to play Warcraft". Don't go into details, unless you're asked, cause most people don't really care.
  4. Avoid getting obsessed with crazy stuff that doesn't really matter. For example, do not care about your post count on any forum. Or don't care about your pageviews. The point of forums/communities are to share thoughts, ask questions and discuss topics, not have 65,405 posts and 485 topics with 6,584 replies.
  5. Do not brag. Do not try to say that you are better than someone through bragging. You think you're being cool, but bragging makes you more annoying.
  6. Do things on purpose and don't do pointless stuff. For example, care more about knowledge than your grades. Fail rather than cheat. Have some integrity!
  7. Disregard what idiots think about you. Don't even respond if someone insults you (unless you want to look up some snippy comebacks). You know that you're cool. Don't lower your mentality to theirs!
  8. Keep up with hygiene. Nothing screams "NERD!" like gunky teeth, greasy hair, and wrinkled clothes. Thick glasses covered with fingerprints and mended with Scotch Tape add to the effect, so if you have glasses, keep them clean!

[edit] Tips

  • Try to be more interesting & listen more than you talk!
  • Don't care what anyone thinks! Have fun & be you.
  • Talk less and listen more.

[edit] Warnings

  • Never brag about your pain. For example, if someone cuts his thumb and says "Ah, that hurts!", don't say "You think that hurts? Once I fell from bicycle and broke all of my bones and then blah blah blah". That makes you seem like an idiot.
  • Don't try to be annoying on purpose.
  • Avoid being "Nerdo-phobic". That means, don't be afraid to do stuff that you like just because people think it's nerdy! "Nerdo-Phobic" people are usually the nerdiest nerds trying to hide their nerdiness. If you're passionate about something, don't care about what people think, just do it. If you have true friends, they will not care (usually friends share interests, so that proves my point) and people who don't like you because you like web design or RPGs are not really your friends.
